AFFAIR RECOVERY

Affair Recovery Therapy in San Diego

At Novara Counseling, we specialize in affair recovery therapy in San Diego for individuals and couples dealing with the hurt, confusion, and emotional ramifications that come with having been betrayed by their partner. Infidelity has the potential to significantly impact a couple’s ability to feel safe, communicate effectively, maintain healthy self-esteem, and trust in one another. Dealing with infidelity often brings up many difficult emotions including grief, betrayal, uncertainty about the future, anger, and even guilt.

Whether you are looking to restore your trust after an affair, deal with the aftermath of being betrayed, get to know what caused the rift, or figure out where to go from here, therapy can be helpful. Novara Counseling offers therapy services to couples with the use of evidence-based approaches like the Gottman Method to work on rebuilding trust and strengthening the communication between you and your partner. We assist our clients through their journey of having honest talks, building emotional security, and making more sense of their situation. It is not easy to recover after an affair but healing is always a possibility. Learn more about if couples therapy is right for you.

What to Expect From Affair Recovery at Novara Counseling

Your first couples session on affair recovery is recommended to be two hours to give enough room for both partners to express their feelings about what has occurred and how the situation has influenced them, as well as to state their intentions in regard to their relationship. The need to spend such a long time on the first session will allow our couples therapist to have a better idea of your background and of the way you were affected by this event before starting to work.

Having had this initial session, our couples therapist will arrange individual sessions with each partner to have the opportunity for each of you to talk individually for 55 minutes.

When both of your individual sessions are finished, the sessions will be held as usual 55 minute couples counseling sessions.

We then can work out a treatment plan which would suit you best. Healing from the affair may occur faster for some couples and slower for others. Some people start to feel changes in their relationships after the first few sessions, but healing will require more time. We will do things according to your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions at Novara Counseling

Is there hope for healing after an affair?

Yes, there is! Many couples find themselves not only healing but growing into a relationship that is more intimate and authentic than ever before. Healing from an affair takes time and commitment from both partners, but it is certainly doable.

How long will affair recovery counseling take?

There is no definitive timeline for healing from an affair, as it depends on many factors, including how well both parties are willing to commit to the process. For some couples, significant progress happens within several months, while for others, it might take longer.

What if I'm unsure whether I should stay in the relationship?

This question is completely normal and understandable. Counseling can give you clear insights into what really happened, what you and your partner want from each other, and whether you are ready for healing the relationship or not.

Are online sessions for affair recovery available?

Yes, in addition to San Diego in-person sessions, we provide virtual sessions throughout California. However, for couples therapy we recommend doing therapy in-person.
